Martinique Luxury Resorts

Here's a place to find an elegant hotel on Martinique, in the French Antilles. Martinique is a wonderful island with beautiful white sand beaches; its luxury resorts reflect the French culture which is part of the country's special personality. The native peoples of the Caribbean  called Martinique "the island of flowers,"  and one can see why: colorful blooms abound on the hillsides of Martinique, with hummingbirds flying about them. Martinique is an ideal setting for a luxury vacation resort; we describe some of them below, and recommend some books about Martinique.

Some of the upscale resorts on Martinique are in the south, where the best beaches are; other elegant Martinique resorts are found near the town of Le Francois. One of Martinique's finest resorts is  Le Cap Est Lagoon- visitors come home with fond memories of the expertly prepared  Franco-Caribbean cuisine; it sits on an unspoiled blue lagoon, has wonderful sailing trips and big game fishing, and an infinity pool.  Martinique is part of an island group sometimes called the French West Indies, sometimes called the French Antilles, which includes Guadeloupe and other small islands. The main town of Martinique is Le Francois, from which you can take boat tours.

Sofitel Bakoua Martinique- Martinique    Another well-loved luxury resort on Martinique is the Sofitel Bakoua, www.sofitel.com. This paradise has  two tennis courses, windsurfing and diving lessons.  You can visit its crafts booths where local crafts are sold, and later sample various rums. They will arrange for you to go  water- skiing,  fishing,  or catamaran sailing. Creole and international cuisine are served, including a delicious crayfish dish.
Sofitel Bakoua Martinique is rated as the finest hotel in Martinique. With a historical background, the five star hotel’s buildings maintain their East India Company styling with large open rooms for its guests. The resort offers many activities ranging from kayaking and snorkeling to wind surfing. The resort has a tropical garden that exits out to its beach and 139 guest rooms with satellite televisions and minibars

For a real experience of Martinique's history, along with modern comforts, there is the Manoir de Beauregard, originally a manor house encircled by sugar cane fields. Dating from the 1700s, it has the look of a medieval manor or  church.  There are only twelve units, so there's a feeling of private relaxation. A lovely pool, a bar and Creole restaurant, and a 5-minute drive to Plage des Salines beach complete the picture.

Here's an unusual Martinique luxury resort: the Habitation La Grange, www.habitationlagrange.com. With only twelve guest rooms, it offers exceptional individual attention. It is truly quiet and lovely; its rooms have appeared in architecture journals. It more than makes up for not being a spa resort or a golf resort by the true class and European style that gives it a flavor of dignified luxury.

Luxury resorts on Martinique are pictured in many of these guides to the island of Martinique. There are lovely photos of Martinique's beach resorts, boating, and resort reviews: The Michelin guide to Martinique is also available in French from Amazon.

We hope you'll have a wonderful stay at one of Martinique's top hotels, or a fine Guadeloupe resort.
